We were asked to photograph the exam results of students who are going to work in the beauty industry, including salons. All have been studying in “Tekniski skúlin” in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands for one year. The models were friends of the students and we had about 10-15 minutes to photograph each of the models and were working on a set location. These photos show a few of our favorites.
These photos are from a photo shoot we did with Elisabeth M. who specialises in hair and make up in Faroe Islands under the name “Vælverustovan Monroe”. Last year they did more than 30 brides (which is a great number here on the Faroe Islands :) and they always do an amazing job. Elisabeth M. owns the salon and has great visions for her work as the styling in this photo shows. Earlier this summer Janus and I met Aðalbjørg from Iceland through Facebook. After chatting a few times we arranged to have a photo shoot together :) On the morning of the photo shoot she told us that she was Miss Reykjavik 2008 and more than just being extremely beautiful she was very nice to be with and we had a great day together.
The day started out in Tórshavn where Gvøðny Miriam & Aðalbjørg did her make up. Then we went to Guðrun & Guðrun where we found the nice sweater that she is wearing on the first three photos and to Lóa where we found some more for her to wear (photos 4 and 5). Thereafter we went to Saksun but just as we had started photographing it started to rain and then we just drove around to see where we could shoot without the Faroese rain ruining our day. And after we found two indoor locations we decided to go back out and get wet and ended up on the beach in Gøta on a very cold and wet day.

On Saturday Janus and I had a day of and so we went to the annual G! Festival in Gøta. You can read everything about the G! Festival at their web page, but in short it is the most important music event in the Faroe Islands. For four years we had the responsibility of the camping place at the G! Festival and even though we have been at the festival every year this was the first time we went to the festival for the enjoyment only and to listen to the music. Even though we never have time to photograph concerts we both love it. As we had a wedding to photograph on Friday and another one on Sunday we decided that we should use the Saturday to relax and not to take too many photos and even though there was a urge to photograph we did manage to relax and enjoyed the day :)
Before the festival we had heard one or two songs from the band Valravn and were excited to hear them live. Especially Janus was excited to see them perform as he and the lead singer of the band were classmates 10 years ago and haven’t seen each other since. We decided that we should photograph their performance - and it was just plain excellence. This is my beautiful younger sister Kristina who has just graduated from college. She is my one and only sister and I had to leave school in England weeks before the end of term in order to make it to her graduation because she means a lot to me.
I’m proud of you Kristina and thank you for being such a great sister and thank you for being so beautiful for me :)
As some of you may have noticed, Kristina has done some modelling for Janus and I from the launch of our business. When we needed a portfolio we got Kristina to practice and every single time the result was great - she is such a natural beauty and the camera loves her!
I am very lucky that the one sister I have has that gift and that I can benefit from it as well :) Love you Kristina.
The photos are taken on two different occasions. The first photo shoot was just for fun. The latter is from the day when all the students got their diplomas and later that day met together all dressed in the national faroese dress.
